Vintage V100 Icon Road Worn

Look, no-one is pretending that the V100 is a Gibson Les Paul - that would be foolish. The Gibson Les Paul is a legendary Rock 'n' Roll guitar with an iconic tone, and deserves its place in the hall of Fame.

It is, however, worth mentioning that the budget end of the guitar market is lousy with really bad Les Paul copies - which kinda look like a Les Paul, but sound like a cat with its tail caught in the vacuum cleaner.  The V100 isn't one of those.

The V100 has a mahogany body with a maple cap - like the Gibson. It doesn't use korina, basswood or any of the other trashy tone-woods that some copyists like to use - and that is because 'that' Les Paul tone comes, to a greater extent, from the mahogany/maple mix.

The V100 also avoids the trap of slapping on a couple of weak as water humbuckers under pitted chrome covers. The V100 uses vintage-voiced double coils to generate a rich, bluesy tone with just the right amount of 'dirt' just bleeding in around the fringes.

The V100 also avoids the temptation to chuck on cheap tuners and hope that the player doesn't notice the slippage while they play. The V100 uses Wilkinson Deluxe tuners - which not only look the part, but also keep your guitar locked in register for tune after tune.

At any price, the V100 is a great guitar.  It plays and sounds like a guitar three or four times the price - in fact, you could easily pay well over a grand on a 'top brand' guitar and end up with a lesser instrument. In the 'bangs for your buck' stakes, it is hard to imagine a Les Paul type guitar which pays back more.
